The Coalition of Outer Metropolitan and Inner Regional Schools Australia (COMAIRSA) was formed in response to deep concerns relating to the proposed implementation of the Direct Measure of Income (DMI) funding (replacing SES funding) model, and specifically the disastrous impact it will have on many outer and inner regional as well as outer metropolitan independent schools across Australia.
Government funding of a non-government schools is intended to be based on the school’s parents’ “capacity to contribute” to the running expenses of the school. The DMI recommendation that this capacity be based on the median income of a school community’s parents:
The Federal Government’s 'Choice and Affordability Fund” (CAF) should support exactly that: choice and affordability for discerning parents, who choose the school that best meets the educational needs of their children.
